Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga Advocates for Responsible Resource Management in UPDF
During the handover and takeover at the UPDF’s Land Forces Headquarters, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga called on officers to manage resources diligently, linking it to the success of the UPDF’s mission.
The Commander of Land Forces, Lieutenant General Kayanja Muhanga, advised officers on Wednesday to take the management of resources allocated to them seriously. He emphasized that effective resource management is essential for the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) to fulfill its constitutional mandate and mission.
In a statement released on June 12, 2024, the UPDF noted that Lt. Gen. Muhanga made these remarks while presiding over the handover/takeover ceremony of the Chief of Staff – Land Forces. The position was transferred from the Chief of Joint Staff (formerly Chief of Staff – Land Forces), Major General Jack Bakasumba, to Brigadier General Michael Kabango at the Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo.
Lt. Gen. Muhanga reminded the officers that mismanagement of resources leads to command issues and ultimately disrupts the day-to-day operations of the army. He cautioned that they would be held accountable by both the leadership and the Parliament, which allocates these resources.
Major General Bakasumba expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership for the opportunity to serve as the Chief of Staff – Land Forces and for their continued support and guidance, which enabled him to accomplish his tasks. “I will indeed remain indebted for all the guidance and support rendered to me in the execution of my duties,” Maj. Gen. Bakasumba stated.
The incoming Chief of Staff – Land Forces, Brig. Gen. Kabango, thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role and expressed appreciation for the mentorship provided by his predecessor.
The handover ceremony was attended by the Chief of Staff – Reserve Forces, Brigadier General Mwanje Ssekiranda; the Director of Medical Services, Brigadier General Dr. James Kiyengo; the Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture, Brigadier General Richard Karemire; the General Manager of Defence Forces Shop Uganda Limited, Brigadier General Metland Bitumbika, and other senior officers.
