General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations in Uganda, met with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong on July 10th, 2024, at the Special Forces Headquarters in Entebbe.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), yesterday met with the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zhang Lizhong.

The meeting took place at the Special Forces Headquarters in Entebbe.

“The meeting was a routine review of ongoing projects in the defence and security sector,” said the Office of the Chief of Defence Forces

“This meeting follows a previous one held at the Chinese Embassy in November last year, and comes on the heels of General Kainerugaba recent meeting with a delegation from China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO),” the statement added.

During the recent meeting, both sides reflected on their 38-year-long strategic relationship, which began in 1986. Gen Muhoozi also congratulated NORINCO on its position as the largest aerospace and defence company in the world, with an annual revenue exceeding 82 billion dollars.

The Chinese delegation today extended an invitation for the Ugandan General to visit China, his last visit being 14 years ago.

NORINCO is the parent company of Kyoga Dynamics Ltd in Nakasongola District that manufactures explosives used in mining, road construction and building dams, among others.

In 2023, the company also set up a comprehensive Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) workshop in Nakasongola.

The workshop is dedicated to the final assembly, testing, maintenance and training of UAVs.

Over the past 60 years, the China- Uganda economic and trade relations have made significant progress.

In 2019, the relationship between Uganda and China was upgraded to the level of Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership with a Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Investment and Technical Cooperation (JCTEIT) as a bilateral framework of economic cooperation.
