In advance of their retirement, 148 senior officers—ranging in rank from colonels to majors—of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have started a documentation and sensitisation process. The Non-Commissioned Officers Academy in Jinja is the location of the event.
As per the policy, military personnel who have served for several years and are older are given the opportunity so that they can go and work in other jobs. This time around, 148 soldiers ranging from Colonel to Major were in the initial stages of deployment before retirement.
Among the things they are putting in place are preparing for a new life after military service and how to handle the money that will be given to them as a pension
Col. Deborah Nayebare, Deputy Chief of Pensions and Gratuity, urged all those who have not been paid to come to the army headquarters in Mbuya for their issues to be dealt with immediately.
