The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) top officials have vowed to drive Uganda’s socio-economic transformation through effective investigations and prosecutions.

This was on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, during a media briefing to announce their annual co-ordination meeting, which will take place at the CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala, from September 4-5.

According to the CID’s brief statement, the scheduled meeting will be held under the theme: The Contribution of ODPP/CID in the Socio-Economic Transformation of Uganda.

“This meeting aims to foster collaboration, enhance capacity, and reaffirm the commitment of ODPP and CID to driving Uganda’s socio-economic transformation through effective investigations and prosecutions,” it said.

The statement also said a total of 620 participants, comprising investigators, prosecutors and key stakeholders, will convene to discuss and align their efforts towards a common goal.

It also announced that President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest.

The ODPP is mandated to guide the Police investigations and prosecute criminal cases in all courts of competent jurisdiction apart from the Court Martial.

By virtue of its mandate, therefore, the ODPP is responsible for guiding investigations and prosecuting corruption-related cases that are received from all the Police stations in the country, including CID headquarters, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the State House Health Monitoring Unit, among others.

Magambo used the occasion to inform the country that they are working tirelessly day and night to ensure that they have a free, fair and safe election.

“If anyone tries to cause trouble or hurt people, we will stop them. Our job at CID is to protect our country and its people,” he said.

The political fever is beginning to take hold across the country after the Electoral Commission announced that the next general elections would take place on January 12 and February 9, 2026, but candidates for presidential, parliamentary and local government seats would be nominated from June to October 2025.
