The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) will officially release the final results of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census this week.

UBOS spokesperson Didacus Okoth says the main report will be disseminated on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Preliminary results released on June 27, 2024, during an event at the Kampala Serena Hotel officiated by President Yoweri Museveni, indicated that Uganda’s population is 45.9 million.

These early figures provided a breakdown of the total population by gender, age groups, including the youth and elderly, and regional distribution.

The upcoming main report, which follows the census roadmap launched in December 2023 by the President is expected to offer a more comprehensive analysis.

“This report will answer critical questions about how Ugandans live, what they own, and where they access essential services,” Okoth said.

He also highlighted that the data will be crucial for government planning and decision-making in investment and service delivery areas.

He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Nakawa division in Kampala, on September 30, 2024.

The event, set to be invitation-only, will see key stakeholders, including representatives from the UNHCR, UNDP and UNFPA, in attendance among others.

However, UBOS has encouraged the public to follow the proceedings given the importance of the census in informing national activities.

Media professionals are being urged to make extensive use of the report’s detailed findings, which will include insights on the availability of household amenities like radios and televisions, vital for broadcasting and communications planning.

“The team has worked tirelessly to ensure the final report is ready, and we believe it will be invaluable for both planners and the media,” Okoth concluded.
