Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, received the Global Women Leadership Award at the 2024 Global Power Women Conference in New York City. She dedicated the honor to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his support of women’s empowerment.
Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has been honored with the prestigious Global Women Leadership Award during the 2024 Global Power Women Conference, held at the Graduate Centre University of New York City. The award, conferred annually by the UK-based Centre of Economic and Leadership Development, celebrates women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and driven significant change on a global scale.
While receiving the award, Nabbanja expressed gratitude and dedicated the recognition to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. “I want to thank the Almighty God for this achievement and dedicate this global award to my President, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has empowered us as women by appointing us to powerful positions. He has mentored me and many other women in Uganda,” said Nabbanja.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the support of Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who had guided her during her tenure as the state minister for Health in charge of General Duties.
During her keynote address at the conference, Nabbanja highlighted Uganda’s strides toward gender equality through progressive policies and laws. She emphasized the need for further empowerment of women, particularly in the financial sector, to transform societies. Nabbanja urged women leaders to uplift each other instead of engaging in “uncalled-for intrigues and differences” and called on world leaders to dismantle discriminatory legal frameworks.
The Global Women Leadership Award is a symbol of honor for visionary leaders who strategically navigate complex challenges to create a better world. This year’s theme, “Advancing the Transformative Power of Technology through Women’s Lens: Shaping the Future of Business and Governance,” emphasized the importance of technology in shaping modern governance and business environments.
Members of Parliament in Uganda paid tribute to Nabbanja’s achievement during a plenary session on October 1, 2024. Hon. Sarah Opendi, Tororo District Woman Representative, lauded Nabbanja for her leadership and for elevating Uganda’s global image. “You are doing great work for this country, and I encourage you to continue serving humanity with distinction,” said Opendi.
Hon. Xavier Kyooma (Ibanda North County) echoed similar sentiments, noting that Nabbanja’s recognition enhances Uganda’s international standing in terms of political rankings and democracy. “Her recognition is not only a personal achievement but an elevation for the entire country,” Kyooma added.
Other recipients of the Global Power Women Award included First Ladies Rossana Maria Briceño of Belize, Leticia Ocampos of Paraguay, and Arya Ali of Guyana, among others.
Several people noted that Nabbanja’s global recognition is seen as a testament to Uganda’s commitment to empowering women in leadership, and her dedication to President Museveni underscores the importance of mentorship in achieving such milestones.
