UPDF Condemns Soldier’s Shooting Rampage in Agago District, Commits to Justice and Support for Victims

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) reported a tragic incident involving Private Amenoy Bonny, who shot and killed three civilians and injured two in Agago district on October 20. The soldier allegedly went on a shooting spree following personal issues with his wife. The deceased were identified as Apiyo Sunday (21), Akidi Santino (47), and Ajalo Florence (16).

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) learnt of the nasty and regrettable incident in which a soldier Private Amenoy Bonny of UPDF shot dead three innocent civilians and injured two in Agago district.

The gruesome incident happened on 20 October 24 at around midnight in Ngora East village, Ngora Parish, Paimol Sub County, Agago North County in Agago district.

Preliminary information indicates that Pte Amenoy Bonny, 45 years hails from Ocini-Kamudini, Ocini Parish, Kamudini Sub County in Oyam district. He allegedly had misunderstandings with his wife Angom Betty who escaped from him. It’s further alleged that he went on a shooting rampage as he was looking for the man that could have taken her.

The particulars of the dead are identified as Apiyo Sunday, 21yrs, Akidi Santino 47 and Ajalo Florence 16 years of the above address. The dead bodies were taken to Dr. Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for postmortem.

While the injured are Kidega Charles Kumakech, 47 and Apiyo Janet 20 who were evacuated to Dr Amberossoli Memorial Hospital Kalongo for further management.

The UPDF regrets and condemns such an incident of misconduct and remains committed to pursuing the soldier who is still at large for prosecution. A joint investigation by UPDF and sister security agencies is underway.

The UPDF undertakes to meet the burial arrangements of the deceased. The army will also meet the medical expenses of the injured.
