Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, urged Christians to embrace government programs for wealth creation and prioritize education to nurture future leaders and responsible citizens. Speaking at the inauguration of St. Joseph Nkooko Parish in Kakumiro District.
The Ordinary Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, has called on Christians to embrace government programs designed to boost household incomes and prioritize education. He emphasized that improving livelihoods and educating children are crucial for nurturing future leaders and responsible citizens.
“You need to improve on your household incomes so that you can ably educate your children for future leaders and responsible citizens,” Bishop Kirabo said during the inauguration of St. Joseph Nkooko Parish in Kakumiro District on Sunday.
The newly established parish, now the 53rd in the diocese, holds historical significance, having been evangelized by catechist Joseph Mangazi from Butambala in 1918. Despite Nkooko’s past as a hub for witch doctors, Mangazi’s tireless preaching transformed the community.
Bishop Kirabo urged the faithful to take education seriously, noting its transformative power for society and the nation. “You should take education of your children as a priority because an educated population can easily transform society and the country in general,” he said.
He also tasked the new Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joachim Kisakyamari Ateenyi, to collaborate with the community for the parish’s growth and development.
The event was graced by Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who pledged her support to the new parish. “We shall support the new parish so that it can achieve its goal of evangelization of the area,” Nabbanja said.
The ceremony was attended by leaders, including Kibaale Woman MP Noeline Kisembo Basemera, Kikuube LC V Chairperson Peter Banura, and Kakumiro LC V Chairperson Joseph Sentayi.
