Uganda Prisons Adjusts Festive Season Visitation Schedule
The Uganda Prisons Service has revised its festive season visitation schedule, allowing prisoner visits to continue until December 24, 2024, instead of ending on December 16, as initially communicated.
The Uganda Prisons Service has clarified its stance on prisoner visitations during the upcoming festive season. Contrary to earlier communication, which indicated that visitations would stop on December 16 and resume on January 18, 2025, they will remain open until December 24 and will resume on January 3, 2025.
Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, the spokesperson for Uganda Prisons Service, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to safety and order during this period.
“Contrary to the earlier communication regarding suspension of prison visits during the upcoming festive season, visitation of prisoners will continue until 24th December 2024 and will resume on 3rd January 2025,” Baine said in a statement on Tuesday, December 17.
He added that the Uganda Prisons Service prioritises the safety and welfare of prisoners, staff, and the public. “Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated,” he said.
