Gen. Muhoozi Pays Tribute to Fallen Journalist Risdel Kasasira
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, paid tribute to journalist Risdel Kasasira following his tragic death, calling him “a brilliant and balanced journalist” and praising his patriotism and truthfulness. Kasasira passed away in a car accident on January 3, 2025, along the Kashagama-Lyantonde Road in Lyantonde District, when the vehicle he was traveling in veered off the road and overturned into a swamp.
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, paid tribute to the late Risdel Kasasira, describing him as “a brilliant and balanced journalist” in a heartfelt condolence message shared on X.
“I’m extremely saddened by the tragic loss of my brother, Risdel Kasasira. He was a brilliant and balanced journalist,” said Gen. Kainerugaba. “He was very patriotic and truthful. Uganda has lost a great man.”
At Kasasira’s burial today, the CDF was represented by Colonel Chris Magezi, his Military Assistant in charge of Public Relations, who conveyed Shs4 million in condolences to the widow.
Risdel Kasasira’s mother expressed her gratitude to the CDF for the condolence message and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The event was also attended by Col Allan Kitanda, Director of Strategic Communications and Defence Engagement; Col Deo Akiiki, Deputy Director of Defence Public Information; and Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu.
They described Kasasira as a courageous journalist who balanced his professional career with patriotism.
The former Daily Monitor security reporter tragically passed away in a car accident on Friday afternoon, 3 January 2025.
The accident occurred around 1:00 pm along the Kashagama-Lyantonde Road in Lyantonde District. According to police reports, the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla Fielder (registration UBK 851Y), veered off the road and overturned into a swamp at Kalagala village.
Kasasira’s wife, who was driving the car, reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Travelling with his family, Kasasira succumbed to drowning. The other occupants sustained injuries and were rushed to Lyantonde Hospital for treatment.
