Prof. Jude Lubega, Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University, has called on student leaders to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance their leadership capabilities. Speaking at the ongoing 14-day Higher Institutions of Learning student leaders’ patriotism training at Nkumba University, Prof. Lubega highlighted AI’s impact across sectors like transportation, entertainment, and healthcare.
“We are living in an era of AI, and as youth leaders, you ought to be well conversant with it. The future depends on AI, so you have to move fast to keep up,” Prof. Lubega stated.
He urged the leaders to explore the full potential of AI, stressing that merely being familiar with tools like ChatGPT is insufficient. “You need to think critically about AI responses and develop skills to effectively work with it,” he added.
Prof. Lubega, a seasoned ICT4D consultant with over 25 years of experience, emphasized AI’s benefits in personalized learning, curriculum planning, and communication. He cited AI-powered tools, such as ChatGPT for Gmail, as valuable resources for crafting effective emails and improving communication.
The training, organized by the National Patriotism Secretariat Corps-Uganda, began on January 3, 2025, and aims to instill patriotism and leadership values among student leaders. Commissioner Hellen Seku described the program as a means to develop disciplined, resilient, and loyal citizens ready to contribute to Uganda’s transformation.
The event will conclude on January 18, 2025, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presiding over the pass-out ceremony.
