UNEB will release the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results on January 23, 2025. Over 798,000 candidates sat for the exams, including 323 inmates and 3,295 special needs candidates. Marking was conducted at 13 centers with 7,500 examiners.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced that the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results for the previous year will be released on Thursday, January 23, 2025. This was confirmed by Jennifer Kalule, the board’s Principal Public Relations Officer.
“PLE results will be released on Thursday. Today, we met and briefed the First Lady, who subsequently scheduled the release,” Kalule stated.
Key Statistics from the 2024 PLE
A total of 798,771 candidates sat for the PLE exams last year, with 379,414 (47.4%) males and 419,357 females. Among these, 524,690 candidates (66.7%) were enrolled under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program.
Special needs candidates totaled 3,295, of whom 1,677 were female. In line with UNEB regulations, these candidates were granted an additional 45 minutes to complete their examinations.
Marking Process Overview
UNEB contracted 7,500 examiners to mark the PLE exams, and the marking process was conducted across 13 centres. Preparations are also nearing completion for the assessment of pioneer candidates under the new lower secondary curriculum. This process is being conducted in 13 centres, two of which are hosting both secondary curriculum and transitional examination examiners.
Kalule noted that one centre has been designated solely for the marking of transitional examinations, bringing the total number of centres to 14, a reduction from the previous 20 centres.
Under the revised lower secondary curriculum, the number of subjects has decreased from 46 to 36, and examination papers have reduced from 126 to 69, resulting in a decline in the number of examiners from 12,000 to 7,000.
