For the first time, the Best Farmers will participate as a coalition at the 2025 Harvest Money Expo, in addition to showcasing their individual exhibits. This decision was reached during a meeting and tour of Sebastian Rutah Ngabwa’s dairy farm in Zirobwe last Friday.

“We will have a dedicated stall as a coalition at the expo, which will provide information about the Best Farmers over the years,” stated Haji Mua-wiya Mukasa, one of the participating farmers.

The 2025 Harvest Money Expo is scheduled to take place from February 14 to 16. This year’s edition is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands, Engineering Solutions (ENGSOL), Tunga Nutrition BV, and Bella Wine.

The Best Farmers competition, organized by Vision Group, is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands, dfcu Bank, KLM Airlines, and Koudijs Nutrition BV. Since its inception in 2014, the competition has recognized 121 winners.

During the meeting, led by Henry Lugolobi, the farmers presented a memorandum outlining key challenges and opportunities for the Government to address in order to advance the agricultural sector. These include improving access to agricultural financing, expanding market access, providing value-addition equipment, and more.

The farmers have formally registered their umbrella association, the Best Farmers Coalition, to leverage their collective success. The coalition is open to all past and future Best Farmers and aims to advocate for increased funding and support to enable them to become model farmers and scale up agriculture across the country.

Maintaining Connections

Henry Lugolobi, the team leader, emphasized that the coalition would foster connectivity and continuous learning among members.

“This initiative allows us to stay united and support each other over time. It also provides Vision Group with a structured way to engage with us,” Lugolobi explained.

The coalition will also focus on training small-scale farmers in better agricultural practices, drawing from experiences gained in the Netherlands.

Sharing Best Practices

In addition to regular visits, the farmers exchange market insights and share best practices during their interactions. “We aim to make the coalition beneficial to all members by sharing critical farming information and collaborating on solutions to our challenges,” said Phoebe Kagambe, one of the members.
