Uganda Cranes defeated Tanzania’s Taifa Stars 1-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam thanks to a late goal from Rogers Mato.

With their first victory in Group F, the Cranes are now tied for second place with the Taifa Stars with four points, one point behind previously qualified Algeria. Niger is last with two points.

Mulitin Sredojevic made four changes and selected an eleven that was more attack-minded than the one he used in the previous game, which the Cranes lost 1-0, four days earlier in Ismailia. Uganda had to win this match.

But until late in the game, when Mato scored after receiving a wonderful through ball from replacement Farouk Miya, the Taifa Stars were still the team that generated more scoring possibilities.

After winning the match in Tanzania, Uganda is currently tied with the Taifa Stars in group F, four points behind Algeria, who has already qualified.

The Cranes must now defeat Algeria and then hope that Niger defeats Tanzania. Moreover, Uganda must defeat Niger before Algeria defeats Tanzania for the calculations to work.
