President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday Tuesday 23rd May 2023 visited Bukoto Central Youth Link Coffee Factory at Kamuzinda village in Kyanamukaka sub county, Masaka district where he urged farmers to add value to their out-put in order to uplift their welfare.
The team of coffee farmers led by Mr. Julius Kanamwangi, the chairman of Bukoto Central Youth Link, welcomed the President upon his arrival with open arms. He was shown a variety of agricultural products, including packaged coffee powder and roasted coffee seeds, both of which are known locally as “kaawa.”
President Museveni thanked the attentive group of farmers for altering their life by getting involved in commercial agriculture. In order to significantly improve their standard of living, he claimed, farmers must add value to their output. He said that coffee may be roasted, ground, properly packaged, with milk and any other nice spice added, and then sold for a little bit more than the going rate.
He continued by citing an instance from Indonesia, where coffee is given value by being combined with milk and other significant spices, packaged, and then expensively sold. He then advised the farmers in Uganda to take a cue from Indonesia and any other nation that may help them add value to their harvest.
Additionally, President Museveni pledged to continue helping coffee growers by providing them with Sh. 150 million worth of equipment, including a coffee roasting machine and a coffee grinding machine, among others.
The President agreed to provide them with a $250 million Fuso box body motor vehicle, which they will use to gather their harvest from the gardens and carry it to the market after processing.
Mr. Kanamwangi, on his part, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for coming to see them and for launching government development initiatives like the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), which provided them with 385,000 coffee seedlings that they planted over the course of two years.
According to Mr. Kanamwangi, 240 young people succeeded in planting one acre of coffee with the goal of providing for themselves. He continued by saying that they typically spend money roasting and grinding coffee, so they were grateful to Mr. Museveni for giving them the equipment they needed.
