Uganda and DRC Strengthen Bilateral Ties to Address Security Challenges

Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Military Intelligence, commends the current bilateral relations between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He anticipates that these ties will expand to meet the aspirations of the people in both nations. He made the remarks during a discussion on topics of shared security interests with a delegation from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

Maj. Gen. James Birungi, Chief of Military Intelligence, has praised the current bilateral ties between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

According to him, this will expand in order to meet the desires of the people in the two nations. Maj Gen Birungi made the comments during a discussion on topics of shared security interests with a delegation from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

He emphasised the significance of the meeting, noting that it occurs while the two nations deal with major security issues, including as terrorism, transnational and cross-border crime, and humanitarian disasters.

Maj. Gen. Birungi noted that the meeting’s proposals would direct both nations’ strategic leaders in developing practical answers to the security issues that both Uganda and the DRC face.

Maj. Gen. Ndaywel Christian Okura, the intelligence chief of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, stated in his remarks that only Africans can solve the continent’s problems.

He also added that the dynamic strength between Uganda and the DRC will be crucial in addressing the region’s security needs.

Following the June 16th 2023 attack by alleged ADF rebels on the Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe, Kasese District, and Maj Gen Ndaywel expressed sympathy to Ugandans.
