Maj. Gen. George Igumba Urges African Military Instructors to Enhance Professional Standards

Maj. Gen. George Igumba, the commandant of Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, urged African military chief instructors to develop proposals on promoting compliance and enhancing professional military standards for middle-level officers. The comments were made at the 16th Chief Instructors’ workshop for the African Conference of Commandants in Kampala.

In order to support the process of preparing middle-level officers for greater responsibilities in both command and staff function, Maj Gen George Igumba, the commandant of Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka, asked African military chief instructors to develop proposals to their commandants on how to promote compliance and enhancement of professional military standards.

At the beginning of the 16th Chief Instructors’ workshop for the African Conference of Commandants at the Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala, Maj Gen Igumba made the comments. The event, which is scheduled to take place from July 17 to July 20, will address a variety of topics, including the evaluation of current security concerns and the evolving character of peace support operations within the African Union.

Maj Gen Igumba advised the delegates to consider the various factors that allow staff colleges to enhance their own curricula and enhance the training and education provided to the officers preparing to assume the reins. Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are among the countries that have sent representatives to the workshop.
