Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) Achieves ISO Certification Milestone
The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) has achieved ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification. The Minister of Energy, Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, highlighted its strategic importance, emphasizing effective power utilization and plans to expand electricity transmission lines to neighboring countries.
With its prestigious ISO Certification, the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (UETCL) has accomplished a significant milestone. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, presided over the ceremony, which was held at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The UETCL Board, management, personnel, and important stakeholders were notable guests.
Dr. Nankabirwa highlighted effective power utilization and Uganda’s aspirations to trade power with its neighbors while underlining the strategic importance of UETCL’s ISO accreditation. In addition to the current links with Kenya and Rwanda, it was announced that electricity transmission lines would be extended to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
The government’s pursuit of operational excellence and improved service delivery was echoed in Dr. Nankabirwa’s demand for effective communication and unity.
The team’s unwavering efforts that resulted in ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification were praised by Mr. Joshua Karamagi, CEO of UETCL. He outlined the benefits, including increased customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, of the rigorous alignment of operations to international standards.
Mr. Karamagi underlined UETCL’s dedication to following international best practices in order to offer Uganda and the surrounding area with reliable, sustainable electricity. Plans for upcoming ISO certifications in energy systems, environmental management, safety, and health were made public.
Government leaders, industry regulators, and participants from the energy sector were present at the event. This accomplishment supports Uganda’s objective of dependable, cost-effective electricity for socioeconomic development.
A sign of commitment to quality and operational excellence, UETCL’s ISO certification solidifies its position as a regional energy leader. The certification establishes a solid basis for future expansion and a key position in Uganda’s energy sector.
