The Youth and Innovation Expo 2023, which is scheduled to take place at Makerere University on October 5th and 6th 2023, will be graced by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa. The Yusuf Lule Central Teaching Facility will serve as the venue for the Expo, which will begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm.

The Youth and Innovation Expo 2023 will be held under the topic “Fostering Innovation for Uganda’s Transformational Development” and is sponsored by the UN Development Program, MTN Uganda, and Start Hub Africa. The organizers want to highlight exceptional youth inventions and youth enterprise.

In 2020, President Yoweri Museveni launched the Youth4Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship Facility (Y4BF) which was developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with Stanbic Bank Uganda to address the problem of youth unemployment in Uganda. The Facility was designed to respond to the effects of COVID-19 and beyond by driving socioeconomic transformation.

By helping young women and men entrepreneurs and youth owned MSMEs in their access to an integrated mix of finance products, company management skills, and market access, this facility has been developed through a mixture of innovation, creating jobs, and encouraging entrepreneurship. According to this website, UNDP has directly sponsored over 400 young enterprises through this program, and through collaborations and outreach initiatives with organizations like BRAC and the National Association of Student Enterprises (NASE Africa), it has indirectly influenced over 6,000 young people.

Prestigious institutions such as Makerere@100 partners, MTN Uganda, Stanbic Uganda, Bank of Uganda, Absa Bank, and Bank of Uganda will launch activations during the Expo with a focus on master classes relevant to youth and students, panel sessions with regulatory and compliance institutions for innovators, an art exhibition, a fashion show curated by Axarya Trends and the Margret Trowel School of Fine Art, a medical camp, food vendor stalls, and exhibitions from all over the world.
