UPDF Commended for Their Valuable Assistance in The Construction of a Hospital in War-Torn Somalia
The commendable efforts of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces deployed under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia in assisting with the construction of a hospital in war-torn Somalia. This humanitarian endeavor is seen as a testament to UPDF’s commitment to peace and development in Somalia.
A contingent of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) currently deployed under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has been commended for their valuable assistance in the construction of a hospital within the conflict-affected region.
Coddi Xosan Xusan, the Mayor of Embresso town and also serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Barawe District, extended his sincere appreciation to UPDF Battle Group XXXVIII for their steadfast support to the Somali populace, particularly the local leadership.
Mr. Xusan highlighted that the UPDF group graciously provided earth-moving machinery, thereby facilitating the land preparation necessary for the establishment of a Level IV hospital. He expressed, “We deeply acknowledge your unwavering commitment to preserving the prevailing peace and, now, your contribution in preparing the foundational ground for our hospital construction. Shukran (thank you).”
This information was conveyed through a press statement issued by ATMIS on the 15th of October.
Colonel Christopher Berochan, the Commander of Battle Group XXXVIII, emphasized that while the responsibility for the hospital construction rests with the leadership of Barawe District, ATMIS stands in solidarity with the people of Barawe as they endeavor to enhance their quality of life. He articulated, “Assisting the people of Barawe in realizing their developmental potential is a central aspect of ATMIS’ mandate, and we are fully committed to ensuring that Somalis have access to essential social amenities.”
Furthermore, the press release notes that, in addition to their efforts against the Al-Shabaab insurgency, ATMIS forces have actively supported numerous social infrastructure initiatives aimed at fostering civil-military cooperation and community development.
