Uganda Wins 168bfor HIV/AIDS Vaccine Research

The Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) and Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) have received a substantial $45 million grant from USAID to advance HIV vaccine research in Uganda. The announcement was made at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC) and Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) have been granted the sum of sh168,811,425,000 (forty-five million US dollars) to advance research and development in the field of HIV vaccines within the nation of Uganda.

This substantial grant will also facilitate the testing of vaccines currently under design and development on the African continent. The official declaration of this remarkable development was made by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) during the United Nations General Assembly on September 20, 2023, in the city of New York.

Both JCRC and Makerere University Walter Reed Project are integral components of a consortium that has been bestowed with this prestigious five-year grant, as conferred by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The leadership of JCRC and MUWRP has announced their intent to publicly disclose comprehensive details of this grant to national stakeholders on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, within the city of Kampala.

The Press Conference will be graced by the presence of Diana Kanzira Atwine, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who will serve as the guest of honor for this momentous occasion.
