ADF Rebels Surrender to Joint Forces, Freeing Kidnapped Victims
Two ADF rebels surrendered to UPDF and FARDC joint forces, resulting in the release of seven kidnapped people. Two other rebels were eliminated, and weapons were seized. The joint forces encourage more surrenders.

According to the combined forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). Two Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels surrendered.
According to a statement made public on Monday 7th August 2023, the pair turned themselves in at the Kasindi, North Kivu, headquarters of the UPDF 3rd battalion in the eastern DRC.

Seven kidnapped people were freed, according to Major Bilal Katamba, the spokesperson for Ugandan military operations in the DRC. They also killed two ADF rebels, he added, and are presently being held at the combined forces sector headquarters until they are being evacuated and undergo rehabilitation.
“The two fighters reported to the UPDF 3rd battalion on, August 6, 2023,” Katamba said, adding, “Two terrorists of the ADF were put out of action on Sunday, by the joint forces under Makindye battalion. This was after the joint forces got in contact with the ADF in Mwalika Valley and two submachine guns, 15 rounds of ammunition, and a walkie-talkie were recovered”.
“The joint forces wish to encourage all ADF rebels who would wish to surrender to the joint forces to use the earliest opportunity and report to any joint forces operating within their vicinity,” he continued.
