CDF Gen Kainerugaba Holds Talks with Indian Military Advisers Training Team
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces,met with the Indian Military Advisers Training Team in Entebbe to discuss military cooperation between Uganda and India. The meeting aimed to assess and deepen their existing relationship. Uganda and India have a strong military partnership, marked by a defense pact signed in 2018 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uganda. This agreement aims to reinforce military training partnerships between the two nations.
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, yesterday 29th April 2024 engaged in discussions with the Indian Military Advisers Training Team (IMATT) who are based in Jinja to assess the areas of military cooperation between Uganda and India.
The meeting, which was also attended by the Commander Airforce Lt Gen Charles Okidi, was held at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe.
A statement from the CDF’s office noted, “Uganda and India share a strong and mutually beneficial military relationship. Our goal is to deepen and enhance this cooperation.”
Uganda-India Relations
In 2018, Uganda and India signed a defence pact in the presence of President Yoweri Museveni during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uganda.
The agreement was aimed at reinforcing the existing military training partnerships between the two countries.
The defence pact was one of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed at State House Entebbe during the two-day state visit of Indian Prime Minister then.
