Chinese Scholars Visit Uganda to Boost TVET and ICT Collaboration
A delegation of Chinese scholars visited the Uganda Institute of ICT to strengthen vocational education ties between Uganda and China, focusing on enhancing cooperation in technical training, faculty exchanges, and curriculum development under the China-Africa Vocational Education Alliance.

A delegation of scholars from China held meetings with officials from Uganda’s Information Communications and Technology (ICT) agencies, further strengthening the bilateral relations between Uganda and China.
The delegation, comprising scholars from Hunan Polytechnic of Environment and Biology, Weinan Vocational & Technical College, and Hunan Railway Professional Technology College, visited the Uganda Institute of ICT (UICT) in Nakawa on Friday, 16th August 2024. The UICT is also home to the National ICT hub.
Dr. Fredrick Kitooga, Principal of UICT, remarked that the visit underscores a strong commitment to enhancing vocational education through international cooperation. He noted that the delegation’s visit aligns with Uganda’s mission to advance technical education and promote global knowledge exchange.
“This visit provides an invaluable opportunity for UICT to share insights and best practices in vocational education while also learning from the delegation’s extensive experience and innovations in the field,” he stated. Dr. Kitooga added that this collaboration is being conducted under the China-Africa Vocational Education Alliance.
The delegation, who comprised scholars from Hunan Polytechnic of Environment and Biology, Weinan Vocational & Technical College, and Hunan Railway Professional Technology College, at the Uganda Institute of ICT (UICT) in Nakawa on Friday August 16.
The Alliance, established in May 2021, is a non-profit organization initiated by Zibo Vocational Institute and CIIC International Education Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., with guidance from the Shandong Provincial Education Department in China and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). It offers an open platform for the integration of government, institutions, enterprises, and research.
TVET Exchanges
According to UICT, discussions during the visit focused on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) exchanges between China and Africa, exploring new models for overseas cooperative education, and cultivating localized technical talents for Chinese enterprises in Africa.
The talks emphasized deepening cooperation in several key areas, including talent training, faculty exchanges, student exchanges, short-term study tours, and curriculum development. UICT noted that this visit will strengthen ties and pave the way for joint cooperative programs that will benefit both nations.
Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring a successful and enriching partnership between the two countries, Dr. Kitooga stated that the visit exemplifies the strong relationship between Uganda and China and their shared dedication to advancing technical and vocational education for the betterment of society.
