Egypt Delivers Hepatitis C Drugs to Uganda Following High-Level Talks
Uganda has received a consignment of Hepatitis C drugs from Egypt, enough to treat 500 patients. The delivery, made on Monday morning, was facilitated by General Mohamed Ashraf of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) and received by Maj Gen BD Mugisha on behalf of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Uganda received a consignment of Hepatitis C drugs from Egypt, sufficient to treat 500 patients.
The drugs were received on Monday morning by SFC Commander Maj Gen BD Mugisha on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The medical supplies were delivered by General Mohamed Ashraf of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS), which operates the factory that manufactures the Hepatitis C drugs.
Present at the reception at Entebbe International Airport were Col McDans Kamugira, the CDF’s Military Assistant, and Dr Charles Olaro from the Ministry of Health.
During his October visit to Egypt, Gen Kainerugaba held discussions with the then Director General of GIS, Maj Gen Abbel Kamal, regarding Uganda’s need for Hepatitis C drugs from Egypt.

Although Gen Kamal is no longer the Director General, his successor, Gen Hassan Rashad, has ensured that the engagement bears fruit.
The reception of these Hepatitis C vaccines follows Uganda’s recent acquisition of vaccines and equipment from Egypt to support the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries in combating Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
These timely deliveries follow proactive engagement between the CDF and Egyptian authorities.
During the October visit to Cairo, the CDF also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
