Elon Musk Claims That X Will Re-Display Headlines on the Platform

Elon Musk announced that after removing titles from preview cards with URLs last month, X, formerly known as Twitter, will once again display headlines.

Musk stated in a post on X that the company will overlay the title in the upper part of the image of a URL card in a future update. He didn’t provide an example of how the card might look or specify when it would be released.

The CEO of Tesla stated in August that X intended to discontinue displaying titles containing URLs in previews in favor of “better aesthetics.” Following the announcement, the company stopped displaying headlines in October.

Users no longer had to read the headline or truly know the title by tapping or clicking on the URL card as a result of this modification. Publishers began writing their own headlines on images and posting the link separately, or they would include the headline in the image of the preview card that was generated, as a workaround for this change.

Publications may find this modification easier to use and less complicated than custom formats, but this entirely depends on how the new card is laid up.

Major sponsors, such as Apple, Disney, and Comcast, have stopped spending on X following Musk’s endorsement of antisemitic remarks, causing the company to have a turbulent few weeks. Only a few weeks after signing on, Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Media announced on Tuesday 21/11 /2023 that it was ending its partnership with the social media company.

Musk filed a lawsuit against Media Matters earlier this week on grounds of defamation. This was a reaction to a news report that claimed advertisements for companies such as Apple and IBM were showing up next to offensive material.
