Elon Musk announced that X, formerly Twitter, will be introducing video support to Spaces, its live audio conversation feature. Musk mentioned that the video feature is expected to be released by the end of the current year or certainly by early next year.

Elon Musk has revealed that Spaces, the social network’s live audio conversation feature, will now support video. X was formerly Twitter. According to Musk, X intends to release the feature “certainly by early next year,” but by the end of the current year.

“We are working on adding video to Spaces from a feature standpoint,” Musk stated. “It will just be an easy feature where you can enable or disable the video.”

Musk continued by saying that, in the event that multiple speakers are present during a Spaces session, the video feed will automatically switch to the speaker who is speaking at that moment, much like other video conferencing services like Google Meet do.

Observing people’s body language while they speak is beneficial. If they choose to allow you to see their face and body language, it communicates more information,” Musk stated.

X probably thinks that by adding video to Spaces, users will be able to interact with their audience on the social network more deeply without needing to visit an external website.

Recall that X introduced a new feature this summer that lets users stream live video onto the social network. The feature is quite similar to what other platforms, such as Facebook Live and Instagram Live, offer for live video streaming.

Spaces was viewed as a direct rival of Clubhouse, which became well-known during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was first released back in 2021. Other than renaming the feature from Twitter Spaces to X Spaces, Musk hasn’t made any significant changes to Spaces since he took over the social network. Musk and X are now prepared to take Spaces beyond voice-only chats.

Musk revealed the news during a Spaces session that Mario Nawfal facilitated yesterday. Along with other controversial personalities, the Spaces featured Andrew Tate, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Alex Jones. Following a user poll, X restored Alex Jones’ account on the platform, and Musk then made an appearance on the Spaces session. Jones gained notoriety in 2012 by spreading theories regarding the Sandy Hook school massacre, which left 28 people dead.
