The Kampala-Entebbe Expressway (KEE) lighting pole installation begun, the installation operation is intended to improve visibility on the road and guarantee the safety of road users.

“We are thrilled to announce that we have started installation of lighting poles on the road. We hope to accomplish this significant milestone to provide better visibility and increase on the safety of all road users,” the official twitter page of the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, tweeted on Friday May 19, 2023.

They also urged all road users to follow traffic signs and instructions during this installation period to avoid any accidents or delays.

The lighting installation takes place against a backdrop of past public and road user concerns about insecurity and frequent accidents along the expressway, which they attributed to inadequate lighting along the hybrid route.

Road users have been talking about how dark the roads are, especially at night, and how this is making it difficult to see on the road and leading to several accidents.

Road users have also voiced concerns about safety along the only toll road in the nation, claiming that thieves were using the darkness to rob unwary drivers.

Allan Ssempebwa, manager of UNRA’s media relations, said late last year that the organization was considering placing more than 1,000 light poles and bulbs along the whole mainline.

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) operates the four-lane Kampala-Entebbe Expressway (KEE), which connects the country’s capital city of Kampala with Entebbe International Airport.

The road, which cost Shs1.8 trillion, has two lanes in each direction, two sections of 36.94 km and 12.68 km, as well as four interchanges at Busega, Kajjansi, Mpala, and Lweza.
