Entebbe International Airport Preparedness Verified for Dual Summits

Lucy Nakyobe, the Chairperson of the National Organization Committee (NOC) for the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77+ China Summit 2024, conducted an official inspection of the recently renovated Entebbe International Airport to ascertain its preparedness and readiness for the impending dual summits. In accordance with the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nakyobe was accompanied by the Minister of Security, Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, Works and Transport Minister Gen Katumba Wamala, and other members of the NOC committee.

Uganda is set to host the 19th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Heads of State and Government, a gathering of 120 member states, from January 15 to 20, 2024, at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. Subsequently, from January 21 to 23, Uganda will host the Third South Summit under the auspices of the Group of 77 and China, a coalition of developing nations.

During these events, Uganda will assume the chairmanship of NAM for a three-year term and G77 and China for one year, a development anticipated to stimulate economic growth, as stated by Mulimba.

New passenger terminal

The enhancement and expansion of Entebbe International Airport are being undertaken by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). The recently inaugurated 10,000-square-meter cargo center, commissioned in April, is complemented by the ongoing construction of a new terminal building spanning 20,000 square meters, currently halfway towards completion.
