EU Ambassadors Commend UPDF’s Key Role in Promoting Regional Peace and Stability

European Union Heads of Mission in Uganda praised the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for their critical role in promoting regional peace and stability, especially in Somalia. The commendation was made during a visit to UPDF military colleges in Jinja, where EU ambassadors met with key military commandants.

European Union Heads of Mission in Uganda have praised the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for their vital role in promoting peace and stability across the region. The commendation came during a recent visit to the UPDF colleges in Jinja, where the ambassadors met with the commandants of the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U), Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) – Kimaka, and the Junior Staff College (JSC).

Uganda.

Maj Gen Francis Okello, Commandant of the NDC-U, expressed gratitude for the ongoing collaboration between Uganda and the EU. He highlighted the UPDF’s essential role in maintaining peace and stability, noting the importance of global partnerships for sustained security efforts. “The UPDF remains committed to regional stability, and we look forward to strengthening collaboration with the EU,” he added.

Maj Gen George Igumba, Commandant of the SCSC, Kimaka, reiterated the college’s mission to enhance leadership skills within the military, as per President Yoweri Museveni’s vision for a professionalised defence force. He emphasized the need for greater cooperation with EU member states to advance training methodologies and resource sharing.

The delegation included ambassadors from Belgium, Denmark, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, and Germany, underscoring the EU’s unified support for Uganda’s security efforts. The visit reinforced the strong diplomatic and security ties between Uganda and the European Union.
