Farming for Prosperity: President Museveni’s Call to Kakumiro Residents
President Museveni encourages Kakumiro residents to adopt Minister Byamukama’s successful four-acre model for commercial farming, emphasizing high-value crops and animal rearing. The President lauds Byamukama’s monthly earnings of sh60m and urges residents to follow suit.
President Yoweri Museveni, during his address to the residents of Kakumiro and the entire Bunyoro region, strongly advocated for the adoption of Minister Fred Byamukama’s successful four-acre model commercial farming techniques as a means to foster prosperity and wealth creation.
Speaking at Kikwaya Primary School in Kikwaya sub-county, Kakumiro District, President Museveni underscored the significance of Minister Byamukama’s approach, launched in 1996, which involves engaging in high-value crops and domestic animal rearing on a small piece of land. He commendd the Minister for implementing these practices, resulting in substantial monthly earnings of about sh60m, and encourages residents to follow suit.
President Museveni highlighted the profitability of Minister Byamukama’s four-acre model, emphasizing the need for individuals to focus on cultivating high-value crops like coffee, bananas, and pineapples, as well as raising animals such as cows, pigs, and poultry for daily income.
The President acknowledged the late Mzeei Karoli Kamanyire, a strong supporter of UPM/NRM, and expressed regret for not being able to attend his burial due to COVID-19. He credited Kamanyire for his support during the liberation struggles and praises Minister Byamukama for implementing commercial farming practices advised during his early political engagement.
President Museveni reassured the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, upgrading health centers, and fostering development in the Bunyoro sub-region. He advised against growing maize on small plots of land and urges residents to focus on more lucrative endeavors.
Minister Byamukama expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the advice and opened his demonstration farm to the public, highlighting his monthly earnings of over sh60m from diverse agricultural activities. Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and Minister Mary Mugasha commended Byamukama’s exemplary leadership and encouraged residents to emulate his innovative farming practices.
Minister Jeniffer Namuyangu praised President Museveni for appointing Byamukama as a minister and commended him for his exemplary leadership.
