President Museveni will today 8th November 2023 host the athletes from the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) who won the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games this year, which were held in Huye, Rwanda in August.
After winning 17 of the 25 medals, Uganda successfully defended the overall title. Kenya, their bitter rival, placed second with the remaining 8 gold medals, while hosts Rwanda and Tanzania were eliminated without winning any gold. And according to an invitation verified by USSSA CEO Christopher Mugisha, today athletes will experience the statehouse vibe
“We received the invitation from the statehouse for about 150 athletes and 50 officials and we have already arranged for our athletes to go there. We surely appreciate the support and encouragement that H.E the president and the Hon. Minister of education and sports Hon. Janet Museveni have rendered to USSSA and the young athletes over the years,” said USSSA CEO Christopher Mugisha.
Uganda won the competition that includes elite schools from the member countries Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan in 2019 and 2022, both in Arusha. Uganda’s victory in Rwanda marked her third consecutive victory in the regional games.
Schools in dominant Uganda that won gold in various disciplines included St. Mary’s Kitende, Buddo SS, Kibuli SS, Kakungulu Memorial, Kawempe Moslem, Mbogo College, and St. Mary’s College Kisubi.
Following Uganda’s announcement as the 2024 FEASSA Games host nation, USSSA designated Bukedea Comprehensive as the host school. The school has since started advanced preparations for hosting the games, which are scheduled for August 2024.
