The Uganda Hippos’ head coach, Morley Byekwaso, has unveiled the 20-man team that will represent the continent in the Accra, Ghana, All-Africa Games 2030.

The squad announcement marks a crucial step in Uganda’s football journey, with the young talents gearing up to represent their nation on the continental stage.

The unveiling ceremony, held at the prestigious Imperial Royale Hotel, was graced by esteemed dignitaries including the Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, and FUFA President, Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim.

As the players were bid farewell, Minister Ogwang emphasized the significance of national pride and urged the squad to exhibit unwavering commitment during their campaign in Ghana.

“I want to assure you that Government is fully behind you in terms of support. Personally, I will travel to Ghana to rally behind you. But when you are on the pitch, please remember that you are carrying the Ugandan flag and representing the entire nation. Give in your best effort and make yourself proud,” remarked Minister Ogwang.

Echoing this sentiment, FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim emphasized the pivotal role of young players in shaping Uganda’s football landscape.

“Across the World, at your age, players are carrying teams. So, you must know that our future is actually you. Go to Ghana and fight and give the coaches of the Senior National Teams headache to invite you,” urged President Hassim, inspiring the squad to seize the opportunity and leave an indelible mark.

Assurances of support poured in from Ambrose Tashobya, the NCS Chairman, who pledged his presence in Ghana to bolster the team’s morale.

With such unwavering backing from government officials and football authorities, the Uganda Hippos are poised to make waves at the All-Africa Games.

The tournament, scheduled from March 7th to 23rd, 2024, will see Uganda pitted against formidable opponents in Group B, including Nigeria, Senegal, and South Sudan.

Despite Tunisia’s withdrawal, the Hippos face a daunting challenge ahead, but with determination and skill, they aim to conquer the continental stage.

Coach Morley Byekwaso’s final squad comprises a blend of talent and promise, with players representing various clubs including SC Villa, Vipers SC, and KCCA FC.

Notable selections include Abdul Magada from Gaddafi FC, Haruna Lukwago from KCCA FC, and Allan Oyirwoth from Brook House College.

The squad will travel to Ghana on Monday morning at 2:45am a board Ethiopian Airlines.

As anticipation builds and the countdown to kickoff begins, all eyes are on the Uganda Hippos as they embark on their quest for glory in Accra, Ghana. With the nation rallying behind them, these young footballers are poised to make their mark on the African stage and etch their names in the annals of Ugandan football history.
