Although Uganda and Italy have maintained diplomatic relations for years, the signing of a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation in 2020 bolstered the relationship.
During the meeting, Gen. Kainerugaba warmly welcomed Ambassador Massoni to Uganda, as it was their first meeting following the latter’s appointment. Ambassador Massoni succeeded Ambassador Massimiliano Mazzanti, whose term in Uganda concluded last year.
