Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba inspects city pothole roads
Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba visited Kampala Capital City Authority yesterday Wednesday 10th May 2023. He was guided on a tour of 6th & 7th street in industrial area to appreciate the state and progress of interventions in the city road network. He pledged support to the Kampala Smart City Agenda.
There was excitement on Wednesday 10th May 2023 at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) when the First son and Senior Presidential advisor on special operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba made a surprise visit to the City Hall.
The employees and top municipal officials, who have recently been receiving public criticism owing to the bad state of roads and drainages in the city, were further excited when Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba made a tour of a few selected routes in the Central Division, which are currently in their worst condition.
Gen. Muhoozi arrived at City Hall in a cheerful mood. Dorothy Kisaka, the executive director, welcomed him and led him to her office, where he met and spoke with the senior city engineers, led by the director of engineering and technical services, Eng. Justus Akankwasa, and his assistant, Eng. Maurice Kainia (roads and drainages).
Some prominent engineers from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) accompanied him. Following public outrage, particularly on social media about the impassable roads that pose a danger to drivers and pedestrians, his visit was meant to provide him a first-hand sense of the state of the municipal infrastructure.
Later, Gen. Muhoozi left with Kisaka and KCCA engineers and strolled through Industrial Area’s 6th and 7th Streets, which are in the poorest condition. As the crew continued to avoid multiple water-logged open hollows, the General added to the excitement by holding Kisaka’s hand and pulling her ahead to keep her from falling into a “mega pothole” in the middle of the road.
Muhoozi who appeared so upset by the worn-out city roads promised that the government would soon intervene to ensure the potholes are fixed. He recently posted on his twitter handle about the poor state of the roads, which he said were an embarrassment, and appealed to the city authority to do something.
Kisaka who earlier briefed the team about the authority’s inability to work on all the roads due to low funding, said she was excited that several stakeholders including Gen. Muhoozi had expressed interest in helping them to improve the current condition of the bad infrastructure.
President Yoweri Museveni recently directed the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development to urgently release sh6b to KCCA for road repair. He said other 41 roads under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project would be worked on using funds from the African Development Bank.
