General Kainerugaba and His Counterpart from Mali Concur to Enhance Defence Cooperation.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, yesterday met with his Malian counterpart, Chief of General Staff Maj. Gen. Oumar Diarra, at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe.

Yesterday, June 5, 2024, saw a meeting between Chief of General Staff Maj. Gen. Oumar Diarra of Mali and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, this afternoon at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe.

During the meeting, both defence chiefs, accompanied by top commanders from their respective armies, agreed to enhance military-to-military cooperation and strengthen the existing memoranda of understanding between Uganda and Mali.

The two countries recently concluded a framework for Defence and security cooperation to cement their military ties.

They also agreed to operationalize the intergovernmental security committee for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline project.

Gen. Diarra formally invited Gen Kainerugaba, who is also a senior presidential adviser on special operations, to visit Mali when his schedule allows.

Gen. Diarra, who was among the guests at the pass-out of 777 cadet officers from Uganda and other countries at Kaweweta Basic Military Training School in Nakaseke yesterday, promised to send more officers and soldiers for training in Uganda.

Commander of Land Forces Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga and SFC Commander Maj. Gen. David Mugisha also attended today’s meeting.
