Coffee prices in Ibanda District have increased over the past six weeks due to improved bean quality and limited market volumes. Arabica coffee now sells at UGX 15,000 per kilogram in Ibanda Town, while Robusta prices have risen to UGX 14,000 in several areas.

The price of coffee in Ibanda District has shown a consistent upward trend, with both Arabica and Robusta varieties recording significant gains over the past six weeks.

Currently, Arabica coffee is trading at UGX 15,000 per kilogram in Ibanda Town and UGX 14,500 per kilogram in Igorora Town Council, reflecting an increase from UGX 14,000 in the first week of December 2024. In Kashangura, located in Kagongo Division of Ibanda Municipality, Arabica coffee is priced at UGX 14,000 per kilogram, up from UGX 13,500 as of December 3, 2024.

Similarly, the price of Robusta coffee has risen, with the variety now selling at UGX 14,000 per kilogram in both Ibanda Town and Kashangura. In Igorora Town Council, Robusta is priced at UGX 13,800 per kilogram, compared to UGX 13,500 previously. Clean coffee beans are trading at UGX 13,700 per kilogram in Nyakatookye Trading Centre, located in Bisheshe Division.

Coffee dealers and farmer cooperatives attribute this price increase to the availability of quality beans in the market, as well as the volumes attracting competitive buyers.

According to Mr. Godwin Musinguzi, a coffee buyer in Igorora Town, the demand for Arabica coffee has been driven by limited market volumes, with the harvest season expected to commence next month.

However, for Robusta coffee, the current gains remain below the UGX 15,000 per kilogram projected by sector stakeholders at the beginning of December.
