ICC World Challenge League B: Uganda Determined to Bounce Back

Uganda, the top-ranked team in ICC Challenge League B, will kick off its campaign against Singapore on November 6. Playing on home soil, the Cricket Cranes aim to deliver strong performances, with their toughest match expected against Hong Kong on November 11.

As hosts and the highest-ranked team in League B of the ICC World Challenge tournament, Uganda enters the competition as clear favorites.

In three weeks, this status will be tested when the Cricket Cranes commence their campaign against Singapore at Lugogo.

Singapore, currently ranked six places below Uganda, will pose the first challenge. A strong performance from Uganda will be expected, with anything less than a convincing victory likely to raise concerns. This opening fixture is scheduled for November 6, followed by four additional matches over the next ten days.

The most formidable challenge for Uganda, on paper, will come from Hong Kong on November 11, also at Lugogo. Although just below Uganda in the rankings, Hong Kong convincingly defeated the Cricket Cranes by six wickets during their last visit to Ugandan soil over two years ago.

Uganda’s recent performances in ICC tournaments have fallen short of expectations, including the 2022 second leg of the Challenge League, where two losses cost them the top position to Jersey on net run rate.

However, following their participation in this year’s World Cup (albeit in a limited format), the Cricket Cranes are now a more polished and competitive team than they were two years ago.
