IGP Byakagaba Appoints Six New Police Directors
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has appointed six acting directors following the expiry of contracts of the six Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (AIGPs).
Following the expiration of the contracts of the six Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (AIGPs), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, appointed six acting directors.
Among the AIGPs whose contracts have expired are Grace Akullo, who has been the director Interpol, Fadhir Kaali, director of fire and rescue services, Charles Birungi, director of welfare and production, Richard Edyegu, director of logistics and engineering, John Ndungutse, the police attaché in Nairobi.
In the new acting and permanent appointments, AIGP Joseph Mugisa, who formerly served as director fire and rescue services, has been recalled from retirement and deployed under IGP Byakagaba’s office. Senior commissioner of police (SCP) James Apora has been appointed to replace AIGP Edyegu as acting director of logistics and engineering.
SCP Joseph Obwana, who has been one of the deputies to Akullo, has been elevated to replace his boss in an acting capacity. Former Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area (KMP) commander SCP Stephen Tanui has been appointed as acting director of fire and rescue, replacing his boss, Kaali.
SCP Elias Kassirabo from the human resource administration is appointed Attaché Uganda High Commission in Nairobi, replacing AIGP Ndungutse. SCP Yusuf Ssewanyana, formerly director ICT, has been appointed deputy director of Interpol Division, a position he will hold alongside former police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga.
SCP Frankline Kugonza from the directorate of logistics & engineering to the directorate of fire prevention & rescue has been appointed deputy director, commissioner of police (CP) Sarah Kibwika from the directorate of human resource administration & management has been appointed acting deputy director human resource administration & management.
CP Proscovia Achola of logistics & engineering is appointed acting deputy director force fleet management, CP Irene Ameri Kimara of logistics & engineering is appointed acting deputy director logistics & engineering, CP Simon Peter Okosh from peace support operation is appointed acting deputy director of operations.
CP Philip Acaye from the directorate of traffic & road safety as acting deputy director, CP Hillary Kulayige from the directorate of chief political commissariat as deputy director, CP Moses Muluya has been appointed deputy director welfare production & sports; and CP Agaptus Ecotu from directorate of human resource administration & management heads to field force unit as deputy commander.
CP Benedict Byamugisha, from course to research and planning & development as CP research & development, CP Hassan Kihanda from course to directorate of fire prevention & rescue as CP fire disaster, training & administrative support services, CP Rosemary Nanyonga from the agricultural police course as deputy commandant of the livestock sector and CP Michael Walwanga from the to Interpol & international relations course as CP international relations.
Others include CP James Kusemererwa from the course to directorate of human rights & legal services as CP international relations, CP David Manzi from the course to VIPPU/VIS as commandant, CP Moses Otala Obbo from the course has been appointed CP welfare. CP Polly Namaye, who went from course to directorate of operations, is now CP peace support operations.
