Despite the low internet coverage in the country, it remains one of the essential needs to a number of Ugandans especially in the urban areas. There is generally easy access to information in fields like education, business, communication, health, farming and entertainment among others, these are some of the improved areas due to the availability of the internet. The internet has had a profound impact on lives in Uganda in recent years, the internet has made it possible for students to access educational resources that were previously unavailable to them. For example, students can now use the Internet to take online courses, access e-books, and research topics online. This has helped to improve access to education in the country and has given students the opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge.

The internet has also made it easier for businesses to operate and reach new customers, the creation of online storefronts, market their products and services, and reach customers all over the world. This has helped to boost economic growth and has created new opportunities for businesses. The internet has also improved communication and also made it easy and cheaper, especially on social networks both within and across borders. Easy access to entertainment also came with internet, which has enabled access to entertainment sites like YouTube, Netflix among others.

Accessing health care information and services online was also made easier by the accessibility of the Internet, demanding for accountability from the authority using social networks has also of late become very rampant, and action has been taken in response.

One of the platforms that many Ugandans subscribed to, a lot was done on Facebook and a number of Uganda had it as their number one social media platform, which they understood better.

However due to political reason the platform was shut down in the country and only those using VPN can bypass and access the platform.

While addressing the media his week the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi indicated that government is still in talks with the Facebook management to iron out a number of issues that led to its closure.
