Instagram’s Status Feature Now Lets You Post Short Video Updates
Instagram has recently updated its status feature, Notes, allowing users to post short two-second video updates. Previously limited to text and emojis, this new feature allows users to share looping video notes with their Close Friends and mutual followers for a day.

Instagram said on Wednesday 13th December 2023 that users will soon be able to upload videos as Notes. Instagram’s status feature, Notes, was introduced a year ago. You were limited to adding text or emojis to your status update until recently. You can now post a two-second video note that loops and shows up to your Close Friends and mutual followers for a full day.
For those who want to share a video on Instagram for a full day, the new Notes update might be a little confusing because you can already post video Stories on the platform. But video Notes won’t likely take the place of Instagram Stories because two seconds isn’t a very long time. The fact that you can only share video Notes content taken with your front-facing camera is another way that video Notes and video Stories differ from one another. Additionally, you cannot upload a video from your phone’s camera gallery when posting a video Note you must record the content inside the app.

By navigating to your inbox, tapping on your photo in the Notes tray, and then selecting the camera button above your photo, you can post a video note. You can then record a two-second video by tapping the record button. After the video meets your approval, you can choose to add text and share it.
While your friends could already reply to a Note with text, the social network is giving them additional ways to reply: they can now reply with audio, photo, video, gifs, and stickers. Your response will be sent to your friend as a direct message (DM) if you reply to their note with an image or sticker.
Due to its ability to facilitate text-only communication, Instagram Notes was initially viewed as a competitor to Twitter (now X) when it was first introduced in December 2022. The launch of the feature coincided with the search for a Twitter substitute following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform. The New York Times reported at the time that Meta was thinking of developing Instagram Notes into a more serious competitor to Twitter. However, as of right now, we are aware that Meta has discovered Threads, a Twitter competitor that debuted in August.
