Jacob Kiplimo Gears up for Monaco Diamond League and World Championships

Jacob Kiplimo, Uganda’s world record holder for the 21km, is set to compete in the Monaco Diamond League in France on July 21, 2023. He will face renowned competitors as part of Team Uganda’s qualifiers for the World Athletics Championships. Kiplimo has been preparing diligently, aiming to improve his personal best in the 5000m race.

Jacob Kiplimo, Uganda’s long-distance star runner and world record holder for the 21km, is set to compete in the upcoming Monaco Diamond League in France on July 21st, 2023.

Double Commonwealth Gold medalist Kiplimo will compete against well-known competitors like Yomiv Kajalcha, Bekele Telehu (Ethiopia), Ahmed Muhammad (Canada), and Kenya’s Martin Kimeli as Team Uganda’s 19th qualifier for the World Athletics Championships.

Kiplimo has been working hard in Kapchorwa to improve on his great performance and personal best (PB) of 12:41 in the 5000m race category at the Oslo League. Kiplimo is being coached by Peter Chelangat of Uganda.

According to Kiplimo, this tournament is the last practice run before the Budapest World Athletics Championships. He said this in an interview with Uganda Radio Network.

As the final track race before the world championships, Kiplimo’s coach, Peter Chelangat, stressed the painstaking preparations that went into this eagerly anticipated league.

Every coach wants to see his athlete succeed on the world stage, which is why we are working hard to make his goal come true, said Chelangat.

Joshua Chemonges and other sports enthusiasts are looking forward to Kiplimo’s performance in the Diamond League because they know that his preparation and hard work will pay off with a well-deserved victory.

“Each and every time Kiplimo sets off for an international race we’re always confident for a smile on our faces back home because he really puts in a lot of effort during the preparations,” stated Chemonges.

Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei, who both qualified for the World Championships, will compete in the 10000-meter and 5000-meter races.
