In response to reports of ADF rebel leaders infiltrating the country, joint security agencies have initiated patrols along the western border. Public vigilance and reporting of suspicious activity are encouraged, with severe consequences for those aiding rebels.

In response to reports concerning the infiltration of notorious Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel leaders into the country, collaborative security agencies comprising the Police, army, and various intelligence entities have commenced continuous patrols along the western border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Fred Enanga, the spokesperson for the Police, articulated that the objective is to surveil and deter any further incursions by rebel elements aiming to destabilize the region.

During a press briefing held on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Enanga emphasized that the ongoing pursuit of these rebel leaders and other ADF remnants underscores the gravity of the security threat.

“In light of these developments, authorities have issued a stern admonition to all members of the public to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activity to the police,” stated Enanga.

Moreover, security personnel have been urged to sustain a heightened state of alertness, particularly those stationed at VIP installations and entrusted with safeguarding political figures.

“Authorities have explicitly conveyed that individuals found harboring or colluding with the rebels will be subject to consequences upon apprehension. The endeavors are being coordinated by joint counter-terror task teams, actively pursuing leads and deploying resources to safeguard Ugandans and other residents from potential threats,” he elucidated.

Consequently, Enanga urged the public to exercise caution and report any suspicious behavior encountered during their daily routines.

He disclosed that security measures have been bolstered across various sectors, including dining establishments, public transportation hubs, tourist destinations, hospitality venues, places of worship, educational institutions, and governmental installations, among others.

As the joint task teams persist in their pursuit of ADF rebel leaders within the country, the focus remains on disrupting their activities and thwarting the establishment of terror cells, as outlined by Enanga.

“The gravity of the threat necessitates heightened vigilance across all echelons, emphasizing the significance of community collaboration and preemptive reporting to ensure the safety and security of all citizens,” Enanga concluded.
