Josephine Ossiya Reappointed as Bank of Uganda Board Member for Five More Years

Josephine Okui Ossiya has been reappointed by President Yoweri Museveni as a board member of the Bank of Uganda (BOU) for another five-year term. This decision follows the constitutional authority granted to the President for appointing the BOU governor, deputy governor, and the entire board.

President Yoweri Museveni has reappointed Josephine Okui Ossiya as a board member of Bank of Uganda (BOU) for another five years.

Her appointment is in fulfillment of Article 161(3) of the Constitution which gives the President, powers to appoint the BOU governor, deputy governor and the entire board. Ossiya was first appointed to the BOU board in 2018 and successfully vetted by Parliament.

On Wednesday 5th July 2023, Ossiya reappeared before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa.

The current BOU board members are Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego, Deputy Governor, Ramathan Ggoobi, Susan Kanyemibwa, James Kahoza, Judy Obitre Gama and Dr. William Kalema.

Section 10 of BoU Act that establishes the Board stipulates the functions of the board among them being being responsible for the general management of the affairs of the bank; functioning of the bank and the implementation of its functions; formulating the policies of the bank and others.
