Lady Rugby Cranes sets off for Africa Sevens

The Lady Rugby Cranes, Uganda’s women’s national rugby team, has been cleared to compete in the Africa Rugby Women Sevens event in Tunisia. The 15-player squad was officially launched on October 11, 2023, aiming to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics through the Africa Championship. The competition will take place from October 14 to October 15, with Uganda grouped alongside South Africa, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.

The Lady Rugby Cranes, Uganda’s women’s national rugby side, have been given the go-ahead to compete in the upcoming Africa Rugby Women Sevens competition in Tunisia.

On, October 11, 2023, at the National Council for Sports (NCS) facilities in Lugogo, the 15-player squad was officially flagged off.

To immediately secure a spot in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, the squad will focus on the Africa Championship.

The Lady Rugby Cranes will compete in the event from October 14 to October 15 against teams from their neighbors Kenya, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Madagascar, Ghana, and Tunisia, as well as other nations.

In Group A, Uganda is paired with South Africa, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.

The 12-player team includes Lekuru Peace, Kirabo Sarah, Auma Grace, and Namabiiro Lydia of the Black Pearls, as well as Nakuya Agnes of the Thunderbirds, are all Avengers. Yvonne Najjuma from the Thunderbirds Thunderbirds’ Ayot Mary Gloria (Avengers) Nassozi Maimunah Sandra Amoli Amoli (Thunderbirds) Black Pearls, or Nadunga Rittah Grace Nabaggala of the Lady Pacers Rachel Mufuwa (of Black Pearls)
