Lubaga Hospital Unveils Transplant Theatre for Kidney, Liver, and Corneal Procedures
Lubaga Hospital introduces a specialized transplant theatre for kidney, liver, and corneal transplants, aiming to eliminate the need for costly overseas procedures. The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Henry Mwebesa from the Ministry of Health and is named after Dr. Rita Moser, the hospital’s first medical superintendent.

Lubaga Hospital has commissioned a specialized transplant theatre that will soon carry out offer kidney, liver, and corneal transplants.
The facility, which cost Shs1 billion to build, was inaugurated on Monday, August 14, 2023, by Dr. Henry Mwebesa, Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health.

Speaking at the facility’s commissioning, Dr. Mwebesa claimed that Ugandans will no longer be burdened by the expensive expense of organ transplants that they have been undergoing from outside thanks to the new facility, which has been named in honor of the late Dr. Rita Moser, the first medical superintendent of Lubaga Hospital.
“Among other nations, we have been sending patients to South Africa, America, and India. The paperwork shows that one patient needs $17,000 (approximately Shs60m) for the procedure alone, according to Dr. Mwebesa, who has been weekly clearing six patients who require kidney transplants.”
