Hon Jim Muhwezi, the Minister for security over the weekend led a successful fundraising campaign for construction of Girls Dormitory at St Peters SS Katukuru in Mbarara District.

Over 150 million shillings were raised at the ceremony by guests, former students, well-wishers, and community members.

“I urge everyone in this region to always support all educational initiatives.”

Miss Rita Atukwasa, a female councilor for Mbarara City, stated that it is her duty to see to it that education is prioritized in this regard.

The current science lab is terribly dated and cannot hold all the pupils, so we need the government to at least provide a new, modern one. It was built by our great-grandparents long ago when there wasn’t much of a population.

The main fundraiser, Mr. Phillip Kakuru, a businessman from Uganda who now resides in South Africa, contributed 50 million shillings to the cause.

“I was educated, in my part of schooling, it is that reason that am giving back to the community that raised me. This school empowered me to become who I am today, it’s for that reason that I call upon all my colleagues in the diaspora to always support developmental programs in Uganda.”

The Girls Dormitory is scheduled to be finished in 2024 and will cost more than 900 million shillings.
