Minister of Defence Emphasizes Support for Eastern Africa Standby Force Mandate
Minister of Defence reaffirmed the country’s commitment to supporting the Eastern Africa Standby Force during a meeting with its Director, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling its mandate.

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, has reaffirmed Uganda’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) in the fulfillment of its mandate.
During a meeting held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs in Mbuya, the Minister conveyed the Government of Uganda’s dedication to ensuring the effectiveness of EASF operations.
He expressed appreciation for the Force’s endeavors in executing its mandate, encompassing early warning, prevention, management, and resolution of conflicts.
Furthermore, Minister Oboth-Oboth commended the invaluable contributions of the development partners of EASF, exemplified by Jens Lindvig, the Danish Defence Attache to Kenya, who presides over the Friends of EASF, particularly in terms of financial support.

In response, Brigadier General Paul Kahuria Njema, Director of the Eastern Africa Standby Force, acknowledged Uganda’s consistent support for EASF, emphasizing its significance in fostering unity and collaboration among African nations for collective progress.
Both parties underscored the importance of EASF Member States fulfilling their obligations to facilitate African-centric solutions to regional challenges.
The meeting was attended by distinguished officials including Rossette Byengoma, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Major General Jackson Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff, Brigadier General Alex Olupot, Joint Staff Training and Doctrine, and Brigadier General Gaetano Omola, Commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre.
