The Minister of State for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, has officially commissioned the new Kawempe Division Administration Building.
Constructed with government funding, the facility resolves longstanding challenges of inadequate workspace and aims to enhance service delivery within the division.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Kyofatogabye expressed gratitude to the government for financing the project and applauded the residents of Kawempe for their support of development initiatives.
“We must also focus on fighting poverty at the household level and ensuring proper waste management for a cleaner city,” he urged.
He also praised the partnership between the Buganda Kingdom and the government, describing it as critical to fostering development. Notably, the Buganda Kingdom provided the land on which the building was constructed.
The Acting Executive Director of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Frank Rusa, highlighted the importance of inclusivity in urban development.
“Every building in Kampala should have access for persons with disabilities. I also want to thank the KCCA staff who supported me during my 111 days in an acting capacity, enabling us to achieve this milestone,” Rusa remarked, reflecting on the end of his tenure.
Buganda Kingdom’s Deputy Kaggo, Phiona Nakalinda, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting development.
“This project reflects the strong working relationship between the Kingdom and the government. We commend the government for funding this important initiative,” Nakalinda said.
Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi lauded Ugandan taxpayers for their contributions.
“This is a testament to the value of paying taxes, as the funds have been used to transform our communities,” Sserunjogi stated.
KCCA’s Director of Administration and Human Resources, Grace Akullo, emphasized the building’s impact on productivity.
“When staff have adequate working space, they are empowered to deliver more effectively. This facility will undoubtedly enhance service delivery in Kawempe Division,” Akullo explained.
The state-of-the-art building, now home to 102 staff members, provides a conducive working environment expected to significantly improve efficiency and service delivery for Kawempe residents.
