Ministry of Lands Urges Landowners to Update Addresses
Uganda’s Ministry of Lands urges landowners to update postal addresses for efficient land services, sparking mixed public responses and suggestions to embrace technology.
The Ministry of Lands in Uganda urges all registered landowners to update their postal addresses on the official register, in accordance with Section 202 of the Registration of Titles Act. This legal provision states that any notices from the Office of Titles may be served by letter to the person’s designated address for service. Therefore, all registered proprietors and concerned third parties are requested to promptly update their postal addresses in case of any changes. This initiative aims to facilitate the effective delivery of land services by the Office of Titles.
Despite this formal request, the public’s response has been varied. Some individuals criticized the ministry, while others expressed uncertainty about the process of updating their postal addresses. Suggestions were made to embrace more efficient means such as email for communication, emphasizing the need for the ministry to adapt to technological advancements. Questions were raised regarding the practicality of the procedure, with individuals working in different locations wondering about the convenience of updating their information and proposing the adoption of technology for a more streamlined process.
The lands ministry highlights the successful implementation of the National Land Information System (NLIS), which integrates various aspects of land management. The NLIS has notably reduced issues such as backdoor transactions, forgeries, graft, and challenges related to missing land records, further emphasizing the positive impact of embracing technology in land services.
